It was great to be in Wisbech with lots of wonderful volunteers this Saturday, talking to local residents about my campaign to be the Mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. With responsibilities covering housing, transport, infrastructure, local investment and possibly policing, the mayoralty is a big job. If elected I will work full time on delivering for our region.
It is a priority for me to listen to the concerns of local residents and discuss how, as their Mayor, I would be able to help. On Saturday, with the beautiful spring weather, there were many local shoppers in Wisbech town centre. We discussed lots of issues that are important to local residents including getting better transport links for Wisbech and the option of having a full dualled A47 between Peterborough and Norwich. We also discussed the possibility of re-opening the railway.
I will review these options and consider the best and most affordable ways to connect Wisbech to the rest of the county. As the Conservative candidate, I understand how important it is to prioritise attracting good quality, well paid jobs to the local area and better transport links is one way to encourage this.
Culturally, Wisbech enjoys some of the most beautiful Georgian architecture in the East of England. As Mayor of our region, I would protect the cultural heritage of places like Wisbech and promote local shops and businesses that provide jobs and keep our local town centres buzzing.
As the Conservative candidate for Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, I will work with Prime Minister Theresa May and the government to deliver the right deal for our area, making a success of Brexit, and keep our region thriving!
